Jelmez-Art Kft. has been an active player in the world of domestic and international theatrical costume making for more than three decades. Over the past years, we have made costumes for numerous European and overseas productions, while we increasingly experience the challenge of the shortage of trained, practical costume makers in the profession. That is why our goal is to contribute to the preservation, transfer and development of professional knowledge related to theatrical costume making.
To this end, we are working on the preparation of a new, international costume design training course, which is based on a combination of practical workshop work and modern learning methods. The planned program aims to train professionals who not only have a high level of craft knowledge, but also understand the operation of theatrical productions, the cooperation between costume designers and workshops, and the professional processes related to international productions.
During the training, participants would receive a comprehensive overview of the entire process of costume making. The curriculum would start with an introduction to theater structures and production processes, then cover material knowledge, pattern making, various sewing technologies, and practical solutions related to the use of costumes on stage. An important part of the program would be workshops, where participants could gain experience through tasks related to real theater productions.
Special emphasis is placed on combining traditional craft knowledge with modern professional practices. The aim is that, in addition to classic tailoring and costume-making techniques, participants will learn about the functioning of contemporary theatre productions, forms of cooperation with designers, workshops and production teams, and the specifics of international projects.
We are currently looking for international professional partners to implement the program. We welcome applications from theaters, opera houses, costume workshops, educational institutions and professional organizations that would be happy to participate in the joint development and implementation of the training. The partnership can take several forms: joint curriculum development, exchange of professional experience, involvement of guest speakers, workshop visits, or even providing practical training opportunities for students.
Our long-term goal is to create an international network of collaborations that supports the recruitment of new talent in the costume design profession and provides opportunities for young professionals to learn and develop in a real theatre environment. We believe that the transfer of professional knowledge and cooperation between workshops in different countries is crucial for the future of theatre costume design.
If your institution or workshop is interested in a partnership, we would be happy to get in touch. We hope that together we can contribute to shaping the professional future of theatrical costume making and to creating a training program that creates long-term value for the theatre profession.
